IKON Awards 3rd Edition: A Night of Stars, Stories, and Excellence
IKON Awards 3rd Edition: A Night of Stars, Stories, and Excellence

On March 29, 2025, the black carpet at Kampala Serena Hotel was rolled out for Uganda’s biggest night in film, the 3rd edition of IKON Awards! A night of elegance, inspiration, and unforgettable wins, this year’s ceremony cemented its place as the heartbeat of Uganda’s film industry.

From stunning fashion statements to emotional speeches and well-deserved wins, let’s dive into the highlights of the night, the guest of honour’s empowering speech, and the full list of winners!

An Evening of Recognition and a Call to Action

With the audience settled, the dynamic hosting duo Flavia Tumusiime and Patrick 'Salvado' Idringi took the stage. Their charm and wit set the perfect tone for the night, seamlessly guiding guests through moments of laughter, reflection, and triumph.

Then came a pivotal moment—the speech from the Guest of Honour, Hon. George William Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). His words resonated deeply with everyone in the room.

"Ugandan cinema has come a long way, but this is just the beginning. Our stories have the power to travel beyond borders, to inspire, to educate, and to entertain the world. The Uganda Communications Commission is committed to creating an environment where our filmmakers can thrive—through policy, funding opportunities, and partnerships. Let us dream bigger, let us tell stories that define our legacy."

A thunderous applause followed, a clear sign that his message had struck a chord.

Mathew Nabwiso’s Big Announcement: A Guild for Producers

As the night unfolded, an exciting announcement came from Mathew Nabwiso, an acclaimed filmmaker and producer. Stepping onto the stage, he took a deep breath before sharing something that would change the industry’s landscape.

Tonight, I am proud to introduce the official launch of the Uganda Producers Guild—a platform that will unite, protect, and empower producers in our industry. It’s time we, as filmmakers, take charge of our craft, our rights, and our future. With this guild, we will negotiate better deals, secure funding, and ensure that our stories are told with the respect they deserve."

The room erupted in cheers. It was more than just an announcement, it was a movement.

Celebrating Excellence: The Winners’ Circle

With emotions high and spirits lifted, the moment had arrived—the awards! The evening saw familiar faces take home well-earned victories, while fresh talent was recognized, proving that the industry was alive with new voices ready to make their mark.
