The Producers Guild Uganda (PGU) Leadership Engages Uganda Mission to the UN to Strengthen Global Film Relations.

The Producers Guild Uganda (PGU) has taken a major step in positioning Uganda’s film and television industry on the global stage. This week, PGU President Mathew Nabwiso and Elenora Nabwiso met with the leadership of the Uganda Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, marking a key milestone in the Guild’s efforts to expand international partnerships.

The high-level meeting brought together the full Mission team, including Ambassador Duncan Muhumuza, Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Kwoba, and Minister Counsellor Celia Nabeta. The discussions focused on advancing Uganda’s creative industry, strengthening diplomatic collaboration, and ensuring that Uganda’s stories can reach wider global audiences.

According to the PGU representatives, the meeting highlighted the Guild’s current work, long-term goals, and ongoing initiatives aimed at professionalizing the sector and opening doors for Ugandan filmmakers. The conversation also emphasized the potential of Uganda’s film industry as a driver of cultural diplomacy, economic development, and global visibility.

The Mission leadership expressed great enthusiasm for the engagement, noting that they were honoured to host PGU. They committed to exploring avenues for collaboration and ensuring that other Ugandan missions worldwide follow suit in supporting the film and creative sector. The ambassadors acknowledged the industry’s growing influence and reaffirmed the importance of elevating Uganda’s creative voice on international platforms.

Later in the evening, the PGU team attended the prestigious International Emmy Awards (IEMMYS) Gala alongside Minister Counsellor Celia Nabeta. Their presence at the global event further positioned Uganda within critical international entertainment spaces and allowed for deeper networking with industry leaders from around the world.

This combined diplomatic and industry engagement marks a significant breakthrough for Uganda’s film industry. As PGU continues to champion the development of local filmmakers, partnerships like these strengthen the country’s ability to compete, collaborate, and shine internationally.

Cinema UG celebrates this milestone and remains committed to amplifying the progress, partnerships, and global recognition of Uganda’s creative sector.
